The EU might “act quickly and firmly” in response to what it calls “unjustified” travel bans issued by the US against five Europeans involved in fighting digital hatred and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.
European Leaders Decry US Move as ‘Intimidation’
European leaders such as Emmanuel Macron accused Washington of “coercion and intimidation”, following the travel bans were placed on figures that were at the heart of efforts to introduce legislation regulating US-based technology firms.
“For far too long, ideologues in Europe have spearheaded organised efforts to pressure American platforms to punish American viewpoints they disagree with,” stated a senior US official online. “The current administration will not stand for these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”
